SEO For Digg and Social Bookmarking – How It’s Done
By Gary Fox
Many of you will know about the social networks such as MySpace, Bebo, Facebook, Digg, and other highly popular social networks, some may even be part of one or more.
How does the range of social networking sites effect SEO & marketing?
Something called the “Digg Effect”, which basically means that a ton of traffic visits your site within a very short space of time. This is known as the Digg Effect, how does this happen?
Well when you create a post/article on your site, and if you then put that information up on Digg, and if the information is unique, informative then lots of people start reading it, it gets popular, the more popular it gets on Digg, more people start noticing it and this cycle continues until a ton of traffic arrives at your site wanting to read the full article or wanting to see what your site is about.
Now Digg readers are clever, so they will know obvious tricks about SEO, and how people try to trick potential customers to read their articles and visit their sites, but these tricks rarely work, because the Digg community is very intelligent.
For SEO purposes, you will need to create a unique & informative article that will attract people to want to read that article. This can be undertaken through SEO by creating a heading, which grabs the attention of people as well as tweaking the title of the page so that it will rank higher for the relevant keyword which in turn should also increase your SEO score.
To get the Dig effect, you also need to ensure you do not display your keyword(s) everywhere (known as keyword density). You have to get a good balance of keyword density, as that is a very good SEO practice, and will help you increase your traffic in the long term & short term.
So finally ensure that you are undertaking effective SEO for various types of traffic not just for the Digg Effect, because undertaking SEO means not just undertaking the techniques but also learning about SEO, and what works for your site.
