Easy SEO – The Thirty-Minute Formula

Easy SEO – The Thirty-Minute Formula

SEO (search engine optimization) isn’t rocket science, although the people trying to sell you SEO services want you to think it is. Look Google wants a quality experience for its users. Google want to display relevant results which have votes of confidence from authority sites. It wants content it believes is related to the search terms that are used.

The first thing is your content. Don’t write for Google, write for your readers. Google knows how long visitors stay on your page, and if you have a fast click out rate Google tends to believe visitors found nothing useful there. So the first thing is to give visitors a compelling reason to stay on your site for some period of time.

Keyword density isn’t what it used to be, but it is still important. I shoot for a 2.8-3.3 percent keyword density on my blogs and it works well. But equally important in search engine optimization is the overall theme of your page. Does that theme lead Google to believe that your page is indeed related to the keywords used in a particular search.

Whatever your keywords are that you are targeting, you need to not only include those words in your text, but you need to include other related words and phrases Google finds on quality sites that get served up on quality sites showing for those keywords as well. You can call this LSI or latent semantic indexing if you wish, but the point is that the overall thematic content of your pages must correlate well with the search terms you are targeting to optimize your listings.

Visit the top ten sites listed for the search term you are targeting. Check the keyword density for the search term and also check the density of similar related words on the pages. This will give an idea of what terms Google likes to see on top listed pages for your keywords.

The anchor text of links coming into your page is important in SEO as well. This can be hard to control unless they are from some of your own pages, but getting anchor text for these back-links that is the same or similar to your keywords makes them much more valuable in Google’s eyes. Some people refer to this as referential integrity. In other words, the integrity of your site depends to a large extent on the anchor text of links coming in from other sites. It is also important, with respect to search engine optimization, that these links come from sites that are contextually related to the content of your site.

There are a number of tools you can find online to find out where your competitors are getting back-links from. Go there and get some links for yourself from these sites. No, SEO isn’t rocket science–it’s mostly common sense and you can do it without exotic tools or services from experts in SEO.
