Free Internet Advertising – Does it Really Exist?

There is a saying…”You get what you pay for,” but this saying does not hold true in the realm of internet marketing. Sometimes, free is better, and in this article I am going to detail the reason why free internet advertising sources are better not only because its lighter on your wallet, but why the ideology behind free internet advertising is superior to paid advertising.

First thing you need to understand is what the net is made of. The internet is 100% information. No one on the internet logs on to outright buy things, at least not immediately. The vast majority of internet surfers are in search for information, so by providing relevant information that relates to what they are looking for, you stand to put yourself in front of a ton of people. Sounds easy doesn’t it?

The sad fact is very few advertisers actually use the internet as it was intended, and distributing information to those searching for it. Paid advertising at the end of the day, are ads that are placed on content. Free advertising is that very content, and that is where you want to be. You want to position your advertising to fall into that ‘content’ category and you will enjoy a long and prosperous career of free internet advertising.

I know what you are asking…how do I put content on the internet? Well there are several ways. The most obvious is creating a website, and providing content through that. This is the most obvious example. The not so obvious examples are blogging, writing articles, hub pages, squidoo, product review and so on. The bottom line is you should constantly be adding relevant and high quality content to the internet that relates to what it is you are selling. By providing a steady stream of content you naturally attract visitors and buyers to your pages and products.

The internet is built on the distribution of information, not the distribution of products. The sooner you understand this the faster you will begin to make money with the web. There are so many marketers that post videos on youtube blatantly pitching their products and services, writing splogs (spam blogs) and basically littering the internet with their affiliate links. This is low quality content and low quality content does nothing to drive real visitors. Using this kind of content you only fool the search engines temporarily before you get the almighty “ban” which effectively ends your online marketing career almost immediately.

Free advertising is better than paid advertising but it does not provide that immediate gratification that we as humans so much desire. It is a long term project, a goal. But if you work at building internet content daily, you will see your level of influence rise as well as your bank account balance increase, because you are using the internet the way it was meant to be used.

So instead of blatantly advertising and trying to find the next best place to buy that solo ad, or pay for that paid classified… think about where the best place would be to provide information to people looking for it. People who are looking for information about the niche you are trying to promote to. Your success in business will skyrocket, and you will be leveraging true free advertising methods on the internet by being a content provider, and not simply a consumer who pays for placement on all the great content that is the world wide web.
