Blog Carnivals are a great way to increase blog traffic and build back links to your blog. It can bring more visitors with better search engine ranking, and direct traffic. This is one strategy which used over time will reap some powerful benefits.

Unfortunately, I’ve seen less and less blog hosting blog carnivals. Which means less opportunity to take advantage of the powerful traffic strategy. And one of the reasons is because of the way some people are abusing this service.

Running a blog carnival I see the same mistakes being made over and over again. Check them out below and see if you are making any of them yourself:

Mistake #1: Submit to Irrelevant Carnivals - This is probably one of the biggest mistakes I see made by people using this service. They just mass submit their posts to all carnivals in all categories. It is annoying sorting though all the junk.

Solution: Make sure your post relates to the carnival - Be on topic, and you will see many more of your posts getting published.

Mistake #2: Don’t read the rules of each Carnival - This is related to the tip above. Each Carnival will usually post rules about each issue. However, I can tell by what is submitted to my carnival some people fail to read what is expected of each author.

Solution: Read, understand and follow the rules - It will greatly increase the chance of your posts getting published. Plus, it will make much easier on the carnival owner.

Mistake #3: Not use on a consistently enough - Many people will submit a few times or only once. They will see some traffic and a back link or two.

Solution: Add Blog Carnivals to your weekly tasks - The real power of Blog Carnivals is consistent submissions of your best posts over a period of time. Add this to your weekly tasks or hire someone to do this for you.

Learning how to avoid these all to common mistakes will make the Blog Carnival community better for all involved. It will also increase your success rate in getting your posts published in various Carnivals.
