5 Ways to Make Twitter Work For You

Twitter is one of the best marketing tools that has come along in the last 2 years. It has the potential to reach millions of people and it is easy and fun. However, it does take a bit to get it right, so I thought we might share a few points to make it work better for you.

1. What to say. While this may be a great marketing tool, you need to ensure that you are talking to your followers. You can’t just push your product or people will leave. They will see you as boring and go looking for someone that is more interesting. Exchange ideas and comments with you followers. Show them you are human and not just someone out to make money.

2. How much and when. While Twitter is simple and easy, that does not mean that you have to be on there 24 hours a day pushing your product. If there is one problem with Twitter it is people pushing their products far too much. Post one or two tweets in the morning and one or two of a night. If I get the opportunity I will post one during the day. The posts of a night always tell people about my new blog postings or videos I have done.

3. Where to send them. If you are trying to build followers then the best place to send them is your blog. Sending people to a sign up page will just get them annoyed. If they go to your blog they get to find out more about you and this helps build your relationship with them. Remember, you are running a business here and your customer relations are very important.

4. How to get followers. The best way to get people to follow you is to follow them first. However, you need to ensure that the person is active and interested in what you have to sell. Only follow people that are already following someone else in your niche. Plus only follow some one that has been active in the last 2 day. This shows that they are active in twitter and more likely to see what you’re putting out; compared with someone that hasn’t posted anything for a month.

5. How to automate. The best thing about a blog is that it is easy to put an rss feed on there. You then submit that feed details to Tweet Feed and every time you update your blog is with send a message to your Twitter account. So all you have to do is update your blog and the rest is taken care of. I have a few accounts that run like this and it saves me a lot of time and money.

Remember Twitter is a social network and it pays to be social. Don’t push to hard or too often. Encourage people to your site and make them feel welcome when they get there. If you follow these steps then you should start to see more people visit your site.
