Looking at your present results or as I like to call it “taking a temp check” helps determine if you are on the right track or if you should make adjustments to get on track for any part of your life. Your business and personal life; both are connected. Many, if not most people go through life and simply do not take stock of where they are and where they are going on a regular basis; sometimes, not at all. This is truly sad; however, it does not have to be that way for you! I think that you may agree that as far as we are absolutely sure, we have one shot on this earth. Let’s not waste it! If we constantly gauge where we are and where we want to go, our lives have a significantly better chance for success and personal fulfillment. This regular discipline is the first step for directing your destiny. Where you are today is the result of the decisions you made yesterday. Where you go tomorrow is dependent of the decisions that you make today!

Temp checks help you make better decisions! Evaluate your results on a regular basis. This is critical for success in any endeavor. You will improve most things in life by evaluating regularly, and the process of evaluating in itself is rewarding in many ways. When we accomplish even the small daily goals we have set, evaluating the day and seeing what we have completed gives us a warm sense of accomplishment. Although our general focus is on business in this article, do not forget your personal life. Evaluating your health, personal relationships and other interests is first in line of importance. Yes, even before business. Without moving in the right direction here, nothing else will truly bring happiness and joy into your life. They work together, synergistically with balance.

I recall not too long ago visiting my primary doctor over some ailments that he attributed primarily to stress and discontent. He said something to me that really struck home. He said, “Bobby you make good money as a regional sales manager, and what good is that money if you have a heart attack?” That was the road I was on regarding my health at the time. His question hit home. I took stock of where I was and where I was going. I realized my priorities were backwards. I was living for my work rather than working to have a great life! I left my job as soon as possible and started working for “me” doing the things I love. And you know what, I have never looked back.

Regularly look at your present results. It can be life changing. You will pause and reflect. This will train your mind to think about what is truly important in business and life. Some people find this a difficult activity. It’s work and can be uncomfortable. We are using our minds and looking at reality as we perceive reality and sometimes reality is tough on you. Yes, this can be uncomfortable at first; however, once you reflect on where you are and where you want to go, you learn things. You begin to attract answers. After a while, they will seem to come effortlessly to you. And….you’ll get positive results. You will have a tremendous feeling of control and happiness. You will gain wisdom.

Wisdom comes from the reflection of ones experience. Consider Buddha under the Banyan tree. He received his enlightenment reflecting on life and its meaning under this beautiful tree. His deep and disciplined meditation was an absolute form of reflection. However, we do not have to spend a year under a tree in order to gain the wisdom we need in our lives for effortless success. Just maintain a regular look at where you are with your goals and tasks. Each day, each week, or whatever interval makes sense for you. I conduct a temp checks every night. I suggest you do the same and congratulate yourself. Be kind, learn to love yourself.

Identify your results; start by writing down your basic desires and goals. Then, simply take inventory of where you are with finance, business, health, hobbies, and love, whatever is important for you. That is your start point. We will go into more detail in a future article. Remember, to get to where you want to be, you must first know where you are. Take a temp check!
