How to Decide on Your Home Based Business – A Step by Step Approach

I retired in 1995 from military service and thought that I would go into business for myself marketing gold and silver coins with what I found out was a multi-level marketing system. I laugh today when I think back how impressed I was by my sponsor and naive I was thinking I was going to easily and quickly make $100k! (Remember I was a soldier and $100k was and still is a lot of money in my mind). I wasn’t laughing back then when I spent a whole lot of money I did not have and the company was shut down by the FTC for some obscure reason:(. That was a hard learning experience in MLM. Taught me to look hard before leaping in!

My second home based business was real estate brokering. Now this time I was much more prepared and had great success; but I was not leveraging my time and effort which is a J.P. Getty principle of gaining great financial rewards in business. However, what I was looking for and the answer for me and for many people just like me; maybe you who is reading this article right now…is a business that you can market partially or completely online!

It really does not matter what kind of of business you have. The right kind of online presence will bring you financial gain! Let’s take into account some basic steps for getting started:

1. Take stock of your budget to start a business. The amount of money you have will determine your start point, what level, and your sustaining limit to the projected profit point.

2. Create a list of things that you like to do; write them all down! What you like to do (love to do is much better) is so important for success. Tony Robbins says that passion is the driver to success! I know about a fellow who loves to dive; loves everything about diving. He now has a business selling dive equipment online and in profit over $250k a year.

3. Once you have your list, get on a search engine and look at what you can find online for ideas. Sometimes you will find affiliate work, sites that give you ideas to replicate, MLM etc.

4. Decide on which way you will go: completely entrepreneurial, or as a representative selling for some kind of organization.

5. Find a step-by step approach to success in that model. You will find business plans, courses, mentors, and consultants. Do not get caught-up in hype. Be very careful with offers of outrageous wealth if you join etc. There are so many scams and even legitimate offers that are simply difficult for the average person to get ahead. Be very careful. If it doesn’t feel right, run! Get testimonials, speak to the business owners or current affiliates before passing any money.

Whatever you decide on, my next advice is to learn how to market your service or product online. The future is here now for business online! I have found many great courses, mentors, and income opportunities that work for people.
