Marketing Plan – The Importance of One For the Online Marketer
By Shyronn Crider
A person hears “marketing plan” and assumes that this strategy just applies to big business. Not true. Just what is the importance of a marketing plan? For someone just beginning their online business this can be a huge help. You aren’t dealing with shareholders or a company’s board of directors, but still, having a marketing plan can save your hours of work later on.
Having any type of a plan is one way to ensure that your business will work successfully. Writing out what you plan to do, how you plan to do it, and when it all needs done is one of the best ways to keep on track. Marketing plans are done in numerous ways. You can spend the extra money and get the software, then just enter your information. Or you can go a cheaper way and just create your own! There have been marketing plans written out on paper napkins that have achieved their purpose. First you will need to figure out a few things.
- What exactly is your business? Information? Networking? Affiliates? Selling Products?
- Take time to write out what you do.
- If you have any products or services write out what they are intended for also.
- Describe your competition and how you differentiate yourself from them.
- List your prices and how you plan to advertise this information.
- Also list all websites that you have.
Now, figure out your target market. Describe this market as specific as you can. Who? – female – teens. Get a feel for who you will be dealing with so you can then gear your web presence and advertising to them. Be as detailed as you can be because this will help you to find them. You will use this information to search out sites and forums where your target market visits. How will your target market find you? Online? Again, how are you going to advertise? Article Marketing? Pay-per-click? Social Media? Don’t go into massive detail, but begin a list of what is familiar to you to start with.
Now, include your budget. Time to decide how much money you will be spending on different parts of this plan. This is a crucial part as each topic listed above will be impacted on how much you are willing to spend. Also, remember to take into account the time involved. If you need to be money conscience, you may choose to start with article marketing, which is relatively low in cost, but high in time; then move on to pay-per-click as your funds increase.
Include as much overall detail as you can, but please do not get so bogged down on the marketing plan that you neglect to implement it! Leave plenty of room for growth and for change. Realize that some strategies that you choose may take some time before results are known. Plan for this, so you won’t be giving up on something to early. While doing this, figure out what you can do, what you will need to learn to do, and what you just can’t do. Remember to budget for educational resources and the time frame to learn.
Putting this on paper will go along way in helping you to gain success. If you do not have a goal, it is harder to achieve one.
