Social Media Marketing in This Upcoming Year – 2010
By Hillel Porath
Lets get started!
Facebook:
Facebook will only be getting better. Facebook has created the ideal situation of an online community. I believe we will see better and improved ways for interaction between Facebook users in this upcoming year- maybe something similar to ustream.tv integrated within Facebook or some kind of built in audio chat. As far as marketing – I see the power of marketing on Facebook as a powerful referral system network, meaning if I know of someone in my network who is an expert on something lets say Real Estate – he will be the first person I would recommend to another who is seeking an expert in that field. Many times when we refer people we usually refer based on who we know and see everyday within our network.
LinkedIn:
LinkedIn rocks. Everyday I work with companies who tell me that LinkedIn for them is a hot spot for getting clients and leads. Its very easy to tell if someone is fake on LinkedIn – this is why companies trust LinkedIn as a reliable place for marketing. More and more companies are entering linkedIn and not only searching for potential customers but also for employees as well, possible J’V's and what not. More B2B’s will be shifting their efforts from Facebook and Twitter to LinkedIn…now I say that because many people get fustrated with LinkedIn and how to exactly use it, over the past few months LinkedIn is becoming more user friendly and this will attract more and more businesses back to LinkedIn.
Twitter:
Lets face it: for the small business owner – Twitter is a pure waste of time. I see too many people wasting so much time on Twitter retweeting nonsense all day and pretending to have a conversation. Twitter is only effective if you are a company that’s already very well known and you want to update your customers on new deals and sales. It is also very effective for musicians who have lots of fans and Twitter allows them to interact with those fans and promote shows, music etc.. so again Twitter will become more of a place where people will join just to see what their favorite actor is doing every ten minutes or what deals their favorite company is offering. What about the small business owner? I see Twitter becoming something very similar to Digg or Reddit – basically a link farm. Its a good place to try and redirect people to your website. The bottom line is: it has become a heaven for spammers.
Article directories:
To many people ignore these sites but article directories are only getting better and hotter. The search engines are putting articles directories at the top of the search results because these sites are constantly delivering fresh content. More and more article directories are forming into social networks and the SEO benifits are amazing as well. These sites must be a part of your SEO strategy.
SEO:
(I don’t want to get into the whole customized search thing..another time:) What should you be focusing on in this upcoming year? Content content and lots of quality content. Google is knocking out sites that don’t have updated and fresh content, its very simple. This is why it’s hard to find ecommerce sites in the search engines..why? Because they lack content.Content for Google is like food for our bodies.
